Netherrealm spent more time on Mortal Kombat 1 than any other game game
Ed Bun from Netherrealm claims that the team spent more time developing Mortal Kombat 1 than any other game of the Mortal Kombat series, and these efforts "will be visible".
More recently, Netherrealm and WB Games announced Mortal Kombat 1, a new soft reboot, which, in fact, will turn over everything we know about the franchise. MK1 promises to imagine "rethought versions of cult characters that they have never seen them before", and "unexpected turns in classical rivalry and original stories".
During the recent direct broadcast of Mortal Kombat 1, ED Bun from Netherrealm revealed some new interesting details about the game. Bun did not demonstrate any of the MK1 modes, for example, the Kameo mode, but he said that the team spent more time on Mortal Kombat 1 than any other franchise game.
"I think we worked on this game longer than any other Mortal Kombat game. It will be visible. You will be delighted when you see new things that we can’t wait to tell you", – Bun said.
Bun also talked about why the game is called Mortal Kombat 1:
"Mortal Kombat 1 is really the beginning of the universe, in a sense".
This is not a continuation of the history of Mortal Kombat 11. Again, the characters have completely different roles in this new time scale, and we really wanted to emphasize this and focus on the name. This is Mortal Kombat 1, this is a completely new beginning, you will see how these characters will be presented again, with new roles and new relationships with each other. This is the main catalyst to name the game Mortal Kombat 1.
We also heard Bun talked about why Liu Kang is in the focus of MK1 marketing. In the end, Liu Kang created the universe.
Scorpio and Sab-Razro have always been a kind of posters for Mortal Kombat. Since this is the universe Li Kanga, again, we really wanted to mix everything – the color scheme in our key art is different. Liu Kang. This is the first time we really show it in front. Again, we are talking about the completely new Mortal Kombat, and I think that Liu Kang is a great face to show that this is a completely new Mortal Kombat, and not just the continuation of the previous one.
